Recently started up a commission for a resin bust of Sasquatch. Was going to do a more comprehensive step-by-step, but this one just started going together quickly so I figured I'd stay with the flow!
The big first part was he came in four pieces: a base, the body, and two arms. The casting was decent, not great, but not the worst I'd ever seen. The biggest issue was that there was a mold line right down this shoulders, right in the midst of the highly textured fur, so it was a bit of a bear to get that filed down. Then, I had to make the arms match texture-wise with the body, so I just got some Aves sculpt and filled the gaps where the arms joined, then traced out some fur with the back of an Xacto knife.
After that, thus far, its been fairly straightforward. Spray primer in black to get some shading going, then airbrushed different shades of brown, drybrushed with more orange type shades to bring it to a balance between realism and the comic books.
The base was also straightforward. I base coated the rocks in gray, them washed them all in different colors for some tonal variation; some were washed in brown, some in black, and some in a mix of the two, then drybrushed with lighter gray shades.
Now its on to just finishing the details, such as eyes, a bit deeper shading, claws etc. then he's hitting the road back to his owner.
