Model Showcase: Ultimate Thor (Diamond Select)
Yet another prepaint bust repainted. I'm trying to get through them as fast as I can to get to the good stuff!
Model Showcase: Ultimate Cyclops (Diamond Select)
Another repainted prepaint bust from when I was buying a ton of these. I still have probably 20 or so busts in various states of priming or painting before I just lost my desire to keep at it. Better subject matter, better sculpts, and the ability to paint in sub-assemblies made my desire for prepaints wane quickly.
Model Showcase: Ultimate Colossus (Diamond Select)
So for a while, about 10 years or so ago, I lacked for space and was buying busts of comic characters I like in prepaint form, just to repaint them.
Model Showcase: Sandman (Diamond Select Repaint)
Model Showcase: Rhino (Diamond Select Repaint)
This is one of the many Spider-Man Rogues Gallery busts that I repainted. The original paint job was typical factory blandness, and I got a bunch of these busts to repaint and make better. I have a bunch of these still in a closet with primer on them that I haven't gotten to, my head of steam totally lost almost a decade later.

Model Showcase: Galactus (Bowen Bust repaint)
Model Showcase: Apocalypse (Garage Kit)
This is abust of the X-Men villain Apocalypse in 1/4 scale. Created by Killing Time Kits and sculpted by one of my favorites, Gabe Perna, who has done some amazing work. His sculpts always bring out the best in my paint work.

Model Showcase: Rancor
This is a MASSIVE vinyl kit. One of my good friends bought this for me ages ago, and at first, I was nervous. I was just getting into doing figure kits, and didn't have a ton of time on my hands, so did I really want to work this hard on a tertiary character from the Star Wars universe? It seemed like a ton of work, on a huge kit, with an only moderately recognizable character. But, I was gracious, smiled, said thanks, and went about my business. Eventually, I figured he'd want me to finish it up, but I had no idea where to begin.
Model Showcase: Stormtrooper (Kaiyodo)
1/6 scale Stormtrooper from Star Wars. This was my first attempt at using alternative paints for a desired finish.
Model Showcase: Yoda (Kotobukiya)
This was a pre-paint vinyl kit of Yoda. I couldn't find anything satisfactory in the 1/6-ish scale model-wise, so I bought this to repaint. I went through a period of time where it wasn't very fun to assemble kits, just paint them...now I think its the opposite for me. So, anyway, here's the "after" of me painting it up.
Model Showcase: Terminator T-800
A very large, maybe 1/5 scale (?) vinyl kit. One of my first uses with Alclad metals. Came out more than satisfactory.
Model Showcase: Y-Wing (Fine Molds)
My first styrene kit in ages, and my first styrene kit airbrushed as well. Met with a little trepidation, but eventually weathered it well enough to be happy with it. Fun little kit, and the pipes and details do an excellent job hiding the seams and joins.
Model Showcase: Tyler Durden/Fight Club SD (Spectre Studios)
A quick, fun build. Spent about an afternoon on it, just an exercise in using pastels for shading.
Deadlines!
So, this might be counter-intuitive, but I really dig deadlines. Seems I do my best work when I'm under pressure and my hand is forced. Mentally, I hate being under the gun, but my end result is always worth it in the end.
I'm signed up for a model contest at my local Games Workshop store, and we have a month to build and paint a kit. Contest wraps up on June 8. I love contests like this, they get me motivated and moving, and it makes me work fast and diligently.
The other really cool thing about contests like this is getting to see what everyone else is working on. Yeah, its fun to win, but I probably derive more pleasure from seeing other people do their best and look at different methods and kits and color schemes that I would have never thought about. When people build and paint well, I have to bring my A-game, so it makes me a better modeler as well.
Can't wait for it to wrap up so I can share what I've been working on!

Minis are coming soon!
Stick with us as we go through the backlog of old completed kits...the other stuff will come soon.
Model Showcase: Night of the Living Dead (Resin the Barbarian)
A quick build and clean up on this kit. Really wanted to try my hand at doing a black and white piece, just for variety's sake. Came out decent. The pieces from the base are from model train graveyard scenes. This was also one of the pieces I did way back when I had more time to Photoshop my titles individually!

Model Showcase: Hulk (Flying Fish Studios)
You won't like me when I'm angry! |
Here is a big huge GIGANTIC resin kit, largest and heaviest kit I've ever done. Tons of fun too. Did this pre-airbrush days, and looking at it now, if I still had this bad boy, I'd love to redo it and use my new toys on it. As is, the over-musculature did decently with the drybrushing, and my makeshift "diorama" turned out not too shabby.
Model Showcase: Fine Molds Snowspeeder
This was my second Fine Molds kit to do, and quite a breeze to put together. First kit that I ever eschewed decals for masking and painting as well. While that is now my preferred method, there are still some instances I have to use decals as opposed to actual paint.
Model Showcase: Fine Molds TIE Fighter (1/48 scale)
This was a fairly fun kit to put together. Fine Molds did a fantastic job making the pieces fit together in a logical fashion, minimizing work after the fact.
Model Showcase: Moebius Batpod
Here's the Moebius Batpod I did from the second Dark Knight movie. Moebius typically does decent kits, but their real claim to fame is hitting the subjects a lot of other companies don't.
