Model Showcase: Nick Fury

1/9ish scale vinyl kit by Dragon Models.

This is part of Dragon Models' 1/9 scale Avengers line, claiming to be computer generated and scanned from hundreds of images etc etc etc. In short, their kits look good. We've gome a long way since the days of Horizon's vinyl, that's for sure. Well placed interlocking pieces with minimal seam work, but mold lines are a pain to remove.

Again, with Nick Fury, there's a lot of different shades of black and gray, enough so that Batman would be jealous. I tried to differentiate between the jacket, gloves, pants, and shirt as much as possible without deviating from the feel of the kit.

I tried to do some subtle shading on the shaved head of Samuel L. Jackson, but its so subtle that practically none of it showed up in photography. I also worked on "aging" him a bit so that his goatee wasn't just straight black, so there's some traces of gray in there. Running a spy agency is stressful work.

Overall the kit is pretty good. I'm happy to see legitimate versions of the subject matter with even more coming out every day, though the subject itself is so monochromatic that it tends to blend into the background and not set itself apart in any way.
